The Proudest Moment

Those who know us know that we’re proud parents and quick to brag, even as one of the kids gives us a “I can’t believe you just said that” look. But the proudest moments aren’t always about the winning, the prizes.

Erin had a great weekend – she accomplished so much with her new horse that it was overwhelming.

But, the proudest moment for me was after the shows were over. There was an incident in the show ring where another rider/horse accidentally cut in front of Erin. The other horse then kicked Erin’s horse causing her to rear resulting in Erin being thrown. Thankfully, Erin knew what to do and she landed safely on her feet. She got back on and then finished the class with a 3rd place ribbon. The other girl was crying, another girl started crying, but they all finished the class.

After the class was over, Erin was able to push past the anger and went to the other girl and hugged her, told her that she was fine, the horse was fine, that everyone was fine and that’s what was most important. I stood back and watched our lovely young lady handle a situation with such maturity that I was awestruck.

That was my proudest moment.
